ABOUT HAYDEE
Haydee Flores Perez is a figurative and portrait artist. She was born in Argentina and lived in the USA and Spain before settling in the UK.
Her work has a strong narrative with surrealistic and symbolic elements, and covers loss, grief and struggle transitioning to peace, strength, and joy. These elements are clearly demonstrated in her portraits of Samuel Coleridge Taylor in the early 20th century who had to struggle with racism throughout his career, and one of Gwen John who was a female painter who didn’t fit in with the worlds view of women’s roles. Both these portraits show the transition of these individuals struggles to serenity. Her work includes real people and imaginary figures where she can express her imagination.
Haydee started her painting career working predominately in oils, but now uses a wide range of media to deliver her vision, including oils, acrylics, charcoals, pencils and digital media. She considers herself an experimental painter who loves to try different mediums. Her love for experimenting makes her work varied and in constant evolution.
Occasionally she will accept commissions where she can see a strong narrative and add her surreal and symbolic elements. A recently completed large scale portrait of a family of two parents, three children and two cats sparked her imagination with the family’s strong bonds. She created a family portrait that resembled a mountain in a surreal timeless background, symbolising the family’s timeless strength. She aims to capture the essence and emotions of her subjects, creating captivating works that tell a story.
Haydee is a member of three artist groups, two in the UK and one in the USA, to which she regularly contributes. Her local group is the Mersea Island Artists based on the beautiful Mersea Island where Haydee has a studio in her home a stones throw from the sea. Every year the group have open studios days and visitors are always welcome.
